BitCan Quick Start Guide for MySQL and MongoDB Database Backups - Public

BitCan makes backups fast and easy while ensuring your data is always safe. Back up MySQL and MongoDB public databases with these simple steps.

  1. Establish an account
  2. Create a backup
  3. Enter database information
  4. Schedule and save backup
  5. Monitor your backup
  6. Restore your backup

Step 1: Establish a BitCan Account

To get started, you’ll need to register for a free BitCan account. Click on the Start 30 Day Free Trial button. 

Enter your first/last name and email address. You’ll also need to create a password. The password must be at least 8 characters long and include a letter, a number, and a special character (!@#$%^&_). Click the REGISTER Button.

An email activation will be sent to this email address. Be sure to check your inbox and spam folders. 

In the confirmation email, click the Activate Account button.  You’ll be redirected back to the BitCan dashboard where you can create your first backup.

Step 2: Create a Backup

Once you’ve set up a BitCan account, you’re ready to create your first backup. You will be asked to provide a backup name and choose a backup type.  

You’ll also need to designate where the backup is located. If your database is public, click Public Database (Server not required).

Step 3: Enter Database Server Information

Next, you will need to enter information about your database including server name, IP address or hostname, username, and port number. 


You can also specify custom arguments for your backup by clicking on Show Advanced Options.

Step 4: Schedule and Save Backup

It’s time to specify when you want BitCan to execute the backup. Choose a date and time.

You will also need to designate who you want to be notified of the backup. One or more recipients can be specified. 

Finally, click Save Backup.

Step 5: Monitor Your Backup

You can now monitor the progress of your backup. 

When your backup has been successfully completed, you will receive a confirmation email. 

An unsuccessful backup will be noted both in Backups and on the Dashboard

On the Dashboard, you can also view a variety of useful statistics regarding your storage and backups.


Step 6: Restore Your Backup

To restore a specific directory backup, click on the Backups tab on the navigation bar. 

You’ll be able to view your backup archives here. Within the Backup Archives box, find the backup you would like to restore, and click on its corresponding blue icon in the Action column.

You can now download the zipped backup.
